Kent Police, and other agencies in the Regional Illegal Street Racing Task Force, arrested a 26-year-old Maple Valley man for investigation of reckless endangerment, reckless driving, unlawful race attendance and public disturbance.
Officers arrested the man Thursday night, July 20, according to a Kent Police statement. He was booked into the City of Kent Corrections Facility.
The public and law enforcement partners alerted the task force about the man’s alleged dangerous stunts in Kent and Auburn. The activities on video placed residents and motorists in danger on several occasions, according to police. The reckless crimes were posted on a YouTube channel.
“The task force would like to express that if you choose to enter one of our cities to perform dangerous stunts, and then post them on the internet for fame, they will notice and pursue you for criminal charges,” according to the Kent Police statement. “It is not OK to put our city in danger for your entertainment.”
In addition to actual racing, which has happened for decades in Kent, one of the popular activities now include “Drifting,” according to the Washington Stat Patrol. Drifting is when the driver of a vehicle intentionally accelerates and oversteers in hard corners or in circles which causes the rear of the vehicle to lose traction and whip around. During these events, vehicles while spinning are typically surrounded by a large group of onlookers who will occasionally stand in the center of the swinging vehicles.
