Kent Police arrested a 24-year-old Kent man for investigation of robbery and assault after a two-hour standoff Friday at an apartment complex on the East Hill.
The incident began when officers responded to a call at around 12:15 p.m. about a robbery in the 10700 block of Southeast 240th Street, according to a Kent Police media release.
Officers arrived within minutes to find a woman who had been assaulted and her purse stolen. Witnesses had reported that the suspect ran east from the location to a neighboring apartment complex. Officers learned the man was in a nearby apartment and may have had a weapon during the robbery.
Police found the suspect and initial efforts to coax the man outside were unsuccessful. Tactical officers and hostage negotiators were summoned to the scene. The man eventually surrendered without incident.
Police booked the man into the King County jail. Detectives will finalize their investigation and file their case with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
