Kent Police arrested an 18-year-old Kent man for investigation of attempted robbery in a home invasion case.
Valley SWAT and hostage negotiators helped make the arrest on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 26 for an attempted home invasion on Oct. 15, according to an Oct. 26 Kent Police statement.
The attempted robbery incident was at approximately 12:50 a.m. in the 23800 block of 135th Avenue Southeast as the residents arrived home from a Seattle casino and walked to the front entrance.
Video footage from a Ring video camera doorbell showed the moment the unknown suspect ran up behind them. One of the victims, a woman, quickly stepped inside and locked the door on the suspect, video shows.
The suspect showed a handgun at their window but the residents did not allow him inside, according to the department. The suspect then proceeded to tear the Ring camera from the wall, video shows.
Details captured on Ring video proved useful in identifying and locating the man, according to police.
Detectives are investigating the possible involvement of the man with other similar home invasion robberies in the region.
“It is a credit to the commitment and expertise of our detectives that has led to this great outcome today,” Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla said about the arrest. “We want our community to know that this type of effort is what they can expect all the time,”
