Kent Police arrested 57 people for investigation of driving under the influence during the holiday Drive Hammered, Get Nailed statewide campaign from Nov. 25 through Jan. 2.
A total of 876 motorists were arrested for investigation of DUI in King County and 3,577 were arrested statewide, according to a Washington Traffic Safety Commission media release.
The extra patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
During 2009, impaired drivers killed more than half of the 491 people who died on Washington’s roadways. The 264 impaired driver-involved deaths in 2009 represent a decrease of nine fatalities compared to the previous five-year average.
