Kent Police arrested two men for investigation of assault and harassment after they didn’t want to obey a road construction crew flagger and took the incident to a further level.
It started when officers responded to a report of a reckless driver at about 12:25 p.m. on June 16 near the 22800 block of 88th Avenue South, according to the police report.
A driver reportedly nearly ran over a female flagger and drove into the nearby Silver Springs Apartments. A supervisor of the road crew began to take photos of the car after the flagger reported the incident. The driver exited the car and threw his keys at the supervisor, hitting him in the face.
A bit later, a driver of another car reportedly got into a verbal argument with the flagger, who noticed the same man from the earlier incident was a passenger in the car. The driver of the car exited the vehicle and threatened the flagger with a baseball bat. The flagger ran away.
Officers arrived and arrested the man who threw the keys for investigation of fourth-degree assault, and the man with the bat for investigation of harassment.
Man throws girlfriend to ground
Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly grabbed his girlfriend around the neck and threw her to the ground during a dispute at about 8:31 p.m. on June 18 near the corner of Central Avenue South and Alder Lane.
A witness saw a man and woman yelling and the man hit the woman, according to the police report.
The man told officers he yelled at his girlfriend because she had spilled paint in their truck, but he denied he hit her. The girlfriend told police her boyfriend was mad about the paint, grabbed her and threw her to the ground.
Man threatens store clerk
Police arrested a man for investigation of harassment, third-degree theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he reportedly threatened a clerk at about 1:56 a.m. on June 16 at Arco am/pm, 13130 SE Kent Kangley Road.
The clerk told officers the man brought a beer to the front counter, took a lighter and asked for cigarettes, according to the police report. The man got mad and shoved a shelf with items on it from the counter. He came around the counter, made a fist toward the employee and yelled at him.
The clerk decided to run to a back room and locked the door. The man then tried to get in the room.
Police arrived and found the man inside the store who matched the description given by the clerk after calling 911. The man didn’t explain to officers what upset him.
Man tries to flee officer
Police arrested a man for investigation of obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct after he allegedly stood in traffic lanes in the 23200 block of Pacific Highway South and then refused commands by an officer to stop running.
An officer on patrol saw the man standing in the road blocking traffic as he talked to people at a bus stop at about 6:40 p.m. on June 16, according to the police report.
When the officer in his vehicle approached the man, the man began to run in and out of traffic. Drivers had to brake to avoid hitting the man. The officer ordered the man to stop and get to the ground. But the man ran.
The officer stayed in his vehicle, pursued the man through a nearby parking lot and caught up to him. The officer exited his vehicle with his gun drawn and ordered the man to the ground. The man still refused to get to the ground, but two officers managed to handcuff him.
The man told police he ran because he hates cops.
