Kent officers bust man for park graffiti | Police Blotter

Kent Police caught a man red handed with blue and yellow spray paint on his fingers in connection with a graffiti incident at Chestnut Ridge Park.

Officers responded to a report of a loud party at about 1:06 a.m. on June 18 at the city park, 9901 S. 203rd St., according to the police report. Officers saw two vehicles parked in the road just outside the parking lot, which was gated closed because parks close after dusk.

Police saw people in a covered area inside the park and shined a vehicle spotlight toward the area. An officer could see about 10 people in their late teens or early 20s. They all took off running. The officers saw graffiti on all sides of the city park building, inside the covered area and on park benches under the covered area. The officers noted the area smelled like fresh paint. They found blue and yellow spray paint cans on a bench, the same color as the graffiti.

Two officers searched the park and heard a noise near a bush. Police found a man hiding in the bushes. They detained him without incident. The man reportedly had spray paint on his fingers. He also had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

Officers arrested the man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief, minor in possession of alcohol and minor exhibiting effects of consuming alcohol. Police also found beer bottles, liquor, open juice containers and garbage in the covered area. The man had a store receipt on him for beer, juice and other items found at the park.

Woman takes toothbrushes

Police arrested a woman for investigation of third-degree theft after she reportedly stole four electronic toothbrushes on June 17 from Target, 26301 104th Ave. S.E.

A store loss prevention officer watched the woman place three toothbrushes inside a reusable bag and put another one in her purse, according to the police report. She went into a restroom and removed security devices from the toothbrush inside her purse.

The woman left the store without paying for the items. A man had handed the toothbrushes to her but he didn’t have the items so police didn’t arrest him. The brushes were valued at $408.39.

The woman told police she and her boyfriend are broke and planned to sell the toothbrushes for cash. Police banned the woman for life from all Target stores at the request of store management. She also had a warrant out of Fife for driving with a suspended license.

Woman punches boyfriend

Officers arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault after she allegedly punched her boyfriend during a dispute at about 6:07 a.m. on June 19 in the 25400 block of 98th Avenue South.

The woman apparently became upset at her boyfriend when he stopped her from driving home from a party, according to the police report. The boyfriend stood in front of the vehicle to block her path and she started to punch him in the face and body. The boyfriend’s brother pulled the woman away.

The boyfriend had a black left eye, a cut lip and scratch marks by his right ear. He told police his girlfriend, “beat the crap out of me.”

The girlfriend admitted to police she had punched her boyfriend but claimed he had hit her first.

Man caught with drugs

Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after responding to a report of a suspicious subject on June 18 in the parking lot of Fred Meyer, 10201 S.E. 240th St.

Officers had the man in custody at the scene for an earlier assault, according to the police report. Officers found near the man a plastic baggie with marijuana inside and a metal pipe with burnt residue of marijuana.

Because the man is under 21, he could not legally possess marijuana. He denied using marijuana. The drug and pipe reportedly fell out of a pouch the man carried with him.
