A transient woman, well-known to Kent Police because she has been banned from more than 40 businesses or locations in town, is back in trouble again after reportedly breaking a window at a downtown Starbucks.
Officers arrested the woman on May 11 for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief and second-degree criminal trespassing for throwing a mug through a window at Starbucks, 425 W. Meeker St., and returning to the store after police had banned her from the property for loitering in September at the company’s request, according to the police report.
Police responded to a call about a woman breaking a window and found the woman near the Starbucks. Officers noted they recognized the woman from a plethora of previous contacts and that she had been flagged or trespassed from 46 locations in Kent, including the Starbucks on West Meeker Street. Once someone is banned from a property, police can arrest them for criminal trespassing.
Officers said the woman has mental health issues and frequently displays volatile tendencies. She talked calmly with the officers at first and then started to yell and scream. After police handcuffed her, the woman allegedly spit on a police vehicle. An officer put a spit sock over her head to reduce health concerns in case she spit at police.
While inside the police vehicle, she began to hit her head against the partition between the seats.
Man punches, bites girlfriend
Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched and bit his girlfriend during a dispute at about 8:56 p.m. on May 10 at the Avante Apartments in the 1200 block of West Smith Street.
Officers responded to calls about a man hitting a woman, according to the police report. The woman had a swollen eye and a bite mark on her arm.
The woman told officers her boyfriend had been drinking steadily since the previous evening. She went to work, came home the next morning from her job and he continued to drink. She told him to quit drinking or go somewhere else.
As the woman walked to her car to go to work, an argument started and the boyfriend reportedly punched her. When she tried to fight back, he bit her on the arm. The boyfriend denied he punched the woman, but said he might have hit her with his elbows. He said he was upset because she had disrespected his father and because she didn’t make him breakfast.
Man bangs body into garage door
Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief after he reportedly pushed another man to the ground, banged his body into a garage door and busted a vacuum cleaner at about 3:07 a.m. on May 9 at a home in the 24600 block of 101st Place Southeast.
A woman told officers her boyfriend got into a dispute with a landlord, according to the police report. The boyfriend became upset about the garage door not opening properly and started to smash his body into the door.
Earlier, the owner of the home, who no longer lived there, showed up to try to stop the man from banging into the garage door. But when he tried to stop him, the man pushed him to the ground.
Officers described the boyfriend as extremely intoxicated. He didn’t answer any questions from police about the incident.
Dog finds man in closet
Police found a man, wanted for felony warrants, hiding in a bedroom closet as they searched a home at about 7:56 p.m. on May 12 in the 24400 block of 110th Place Southeast. Police arrested the man for investigation of obstructing an officer and on several warrants.
Officers received a call about a man with felony warrants being inside the home, according to the police report. The man had warrants for escaping from community custody from the state Department of Corrections as well as warrants for a no-contact order, fourth-degree assault and obstructing an officer.
Police had been to the house numerous times to arrest the man on similar warrants. Officers told the man to come out of the house but he didn’t respond.
Police used a K-9 unit to help clear the house and find the man hiding in a closet in a back bedroom. The man also had refused to come out and hid during previous calls.
No beer in park
Officers cited and released three 19-year-old men for having alcohol in a city park at about 5:42 p.m. on May 11 at Springwood Park, 12700 S.E. 274th St.
The men were reportedly drinking beer and throwing bottles near the playground area, according to the police report. Officers found a 12-pack of Heineken with open bottles and broken bottles.
