Kent Police arrested a 48-year-old woman and her adult son for investigation of fourth-degree assault after they reportedly each bit and punched a security guard during a dispute at a Kent sports bar.
Multiple officers responded to Sam’s Sports Bar, 23803 104th Ave. S.E., at about 12:47 a.m. on Jan. 25 after a report of an assault, according to the police report.
A bar bouncer told police he approached a man being aggressive with a female customer and asked the man to leave. He began to escort the man to the exit when the man pushed back and both men fell to the floor. The security guard put the man in a chokehold but then started to get punched in the head from behind by a woman.
The woman reportedly then bit the man on the side of the head while the man on the floor started to bite the bouncer’s wrist. Both customers fled the bar on foot.
Police located the woman and her son in separate locations not far from the bar. The son denied pushing or biting the guard. The woman said she attacked the guard because he was struggling on the floor with her son.
Officers also arrested the woman for making false statements because she reportedly gave police incorrect names for herself.
Disorderly conduct
Officers arrested a man for investigation of disorderly conduct after he allegedly used his bicycle to block the drive-thru exit at Wendy’s, 515 E. Smith St.
A vehicle driver called police on Jan. 26 because the man continued to block the exit and wouldn’t leave, according to the police report.
When an officer arrived, the man on the bicycle still refused to leave and started to yell obscenities at the driver as well as the officer. The man also took a fighting stance after the officer asked him to be quiet.
That move caused the officer to call for another police unit. When a second officer arrived, they placed the man next to the bicycle in handcuffs.
Drug paraphernalia
Police arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after he tried to raise money by begging at about 3:53 p.m. on Jan 27 in the 3000 block of Kent Des Moines Road.
The man walked along the shoulder of the Interstate 5 southbound off-ramp with a sign that said anything will help, according to the police report. The state Department of Transportation has posted a sign that bans loitering in that area.
Officers discovered the man had Kent warrants for criminal trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police found a broken meth pipe in the man’s possession.
Police also banned the man from state DOT property and told him he would be arrested for criminal trespassing if he returned.
Assault
Officers arrested a man for allegedly punching a woman in the face during a dispute on Jan. 24 near the intersection of 112th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 240th Street.
A witness called 911 to report a man had punched a woman as they walked northbound on 112th Avenue Southeast, according to the police report.
An officer stopped the pair near the 23400 block of 112th Avenue Southeast and recognized each of them from previous contacts in 2013 when the couple had disputes. The woman said the man pushed her to the ground but didn’t hit her in the face. The man denied pushing or hitting the woman but said they had argued.
The woman had muddy clothes, so the officer noted she must have been pushed to the ground or somehow fell to the ground.
