Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving after he reportedly raced another car of speeds up to 70 mph southbound along 104th Avenue Southeast on the East Hill.
An officer on patrol June 14 in the 25200 block of northbound 104th Avenue Southeast saw two cars racing side by side in the southbound lanes at estimated speeds of 60 to 70 mph, according to the police report. Each driver drove an Acura Integra.
The patrol officer made a u-turn and caught up to the cars at the red light at the Southeast 256th Street intersection. He stopped one of the cars in the Alpha XR parking lot while the other car turned westbound on 256th.
The driver who was pulled over admitted to racing but told police the other driver instigated the race when he pulled up alongside of him, matched his speed and then accelerated. The driver said he decided to speed up as well.
Police had license plate numbers of both cars and tracked down the other driver at an East Hill apartment complex. The man denied racing and said the other car sped past him. He was cited for investigation of reckless driving.
Malicious mischief
Officers cited a man for investigation of malicious mischief for allegedly using an ax to damage a roof rack on his ex-wife’s vehicle on June 16 in the Kent Station parking lot.
Officers responded to a report of man with a bat threatening a person near the Fed-Ex Kinko’s store at 207 W. Kent Station, according to the police report.
The man had left the scene when police arrived. A witness told officers the man came up behind the vehicle with an ax handle and starting swinging the ax at the car, hitting a roof rack.
The former wife had left the car. She didn’t know what had upset her former husband and didn’t want to press charges.
Illegal camping
Police arrested a man for illegal camping after an officer saw the man sleeping on a bench near the restrooms at the city’s Earthworks Park, 100 Reiten Road.
The man was wrapped in a sleeping bag and snoring when the officer woke him up on the bench, according to the police report. The man had no identification on him.
The officer told the man to stand up and place his hands behind his back. The man reportedly refused the order four times so the officer pulled out a Taser and ordered the man again to stand up. The man complied.
Police handcuffed the man and transported him to the city jail.
