Kent officers arrest man for reckless driving after street racing | Police Blotter

Kent Police arrested an 18-year-old SeaTac man for investigation of eluding an officer and reckless driving in connection with street racing in the North Kent industrial area.

Kent Police arrested an 18-year-old SeaTac man for investigation of eluding an officer and reckless driving in connection with street racing in the North Kent industrial area.

Officers were conducting an area check at about 12:43 a.m. Sept. 7 in the 8000 block of South 196th Street due to the volume of street racers in the area known for street racing, according to an email from Kent Police spokeswoman Melanie Frazier.

Police saw a 1997 black Lexus driving recklessly once patrol units were spotted in the area. The driver refused to pull over when patrol units activated lights behind him and a pursuit began.

After about a two-minute chase with speeds near 75 mph, police were able to stop the driver in the 6400 block of South 192nd Street. Five people were in the car.

Interfering with an officer

Officers arrested a man for investigation of interfering with police after he refused to back away from another man who paramedics were carrying on a gurney to a nearby ambulance.

The incident occurred Sept. 1 at the College Apartments, 23634 Pacific Highway S., according to the police report.

A man had driven his vehicle into an apartment unit. As paramedics took the man toward an ambulance, a male passenger of the car came up to the man and tried to grab his phone. An officer grabbed the man by his shoulders, pulled him back and told him to leave the patient alone.

But the man then shrugged out of the officer’s grasp and lunged toward the patient. An officer used a Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint (LVNR) to stop the man from resisting. A fire inspector and another officer helped get the man’s arms behind his back so he could be restrained.

The man did not tell police why he tried to approach the man on the gurney.

Obstructing

Police arrested a woman for investigation of obstructing after she gave officers a false name during an search into possible illegal drug activity in the Denny’s restaurant restroom Sept. 2 at 1246 Central Ave. N.

Employees called 911 because of an odd smoke smell coming from the restroom and that the woman had been in the stall for at least 30 minutes, according to the police report.

The woman denied she had used any drugs in the bathroom. She gave officers one name initially before finding her identification that had a different name.

Officers also noticed a paper sticking out of the woman’s shirt. She told police it was a “tooter,” a slang term for a plastic tube or straw used for smoking heroin off of tin foil. A search of the woman revealed that she had about six “tooters.”

The officer arrested the woman for obstructing and gave her a verbal warning about the drug paraphernalia.

Drugs

Officers responded to a 911 call about a suspicious vehicle Aug. 31 in the 4600 block of South 257th Street and arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers spotted a Lincoln Town Car leaving the neighborhood shortly after responding to a call about the vehicle that had been parked for 20 minutes or more with three or four people inside and a lighter flickering inside, according to the police report.

When police stopped the vehicle, the driver told them he was on his way to get gas. He initially told officers he had only smoked a cigarette.

An officer spotted a box of tin foil inside the car and noted in the report that drug addicts smoke heroin and prescription pills with pipes off of tin foil.

Police found a pipe on the ground outside of the driver’s door. The driver then admitted that he and a friend had smoked Percocet, a prescription drug used as a painkiller, while parked on the street. He said the pipe belonged to him and that he had smoked about one-half of a pill.
