Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving after he allegedly hit speeds of 85 mph during wet road conditions along Southeast 240th Street on the East Hill.
An officer on patrol at about 4:22 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Southeast 240th Street and 132nd Avenue Southeast observed a BMW westbound on 240th Street that accelerated quickly and then fishtailed, according to the police report.
The officer activated his overhead lights and began to pursue the car. The officer noted the BMW reached speeds of 85 mph in a 40 mph zone as he had trouble gaining on the BMW.
After stopping for a red light, the driver slowed to about 35 mph and pulled over for the officer at Southeast 240th Street and 108th Avenue Southeast.
Assault
Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly punched two men during a dispute at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 1 in the parking lot of the No Que No restaurant and bar, 105 Central Ave. N.
When officers arrived at the restaurant, they observed one man with a small bump under his eye and another man with a swollen lip as well as a bump on his head, according to the police report. Both men said they had been attacked by a third man.
The incident started when one of the men asked the driver of a truck parked outside the bar to stop revving his engine because it was so loud. The driver jumped out of the truck and reportedly punched the man, knocking him to the ground. A friend of the man on the ground approached the driver, who then punched that man.
A security employee of the bar detained the truck driver until police arrived. The driver didn’t talk to officers about the dispute.
Illegal dumping
Police cited a woman for investigation of illegal dumping after she reportedly dumped yard waste on a neighbor’s property in the 11600 block of Southeast 196th Street in the Panther Lake area.
A neighbor initially complained to the city of Kent’s code enforcement division about the Oct. 24 incident before a code enforcement officer referred the complaint to police for potential criminal charges, according to the police report.
A police officer investigated the incident and found out from the neighbor that the woman reportedly had been dumping yard waste on the undeveloped property for the last year. The officer observed several piles of leaves and other yard debris under a tree.
