Kent Municipal Court Judge Karli Jorgensen will kick off her 2013 election campaign at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at Down Home Catering, 211 First Ave. S.

Jorgensen was appointed in 2011 to fill the vacancy by the departure of Judge Robert McSeveney to become a federal immigration judge. Jorgensen is facing her first election and has been actively campaigning since November to retain her position. Her term expires at the end of 2013.

City leaders, including Mayor Suzette Cooke, are expected to be on hand for the event, according to a Jorgensen campaign media release. The event is open to the public.

“Judge Jorgensen has done an excellent job for the citizens of Kent,” Cooke said in the release. “We look forward to having her serve us for another four years.”

Jorgensen had a 16-year career as a prosecutor for King County and several Eastside cities and more than 18 years experience as a Judge Pro Tem prior to her appointment to the Kent Municipal Court.

A member of the Kent Chamber of Commerce and the local Rotary, Jorgensen is an active volunteer in the community and the Kent Public Schools.

Jorgensen has raised $14,870 so far, according to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission website.

No one has filed yet to run against Jorgensen.
