Kent-Meridian High School received the Washington State Board of Education’s first English Language Acquisition Award, which recognizes the top 5 percent of all schools, based on scores from the 2012-13 Washington English Language Proficiency Assessment.
Forty-two schools across the state were recognized.
Kent-Meridian is recognized for delivering high quality instruction and providing instructional services to support its English language learner (ELL) students.
“Kent School District has a high percentage of students who are new English language learners, and they’re an important part of our community’s cultural and economic prosperity,” said Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas. “Our efforts to see them achieve great things can now be seen in the numbers, and I’m proud of the students and our dedicated staff in earning this award. I know that Principal (Wade) Barringer is very proud of his staff and students as well.”
