Kent Marine reportedly killed during robbery attempt in Georgia | Update

Two men approached Sandhu in apartment parking lot

A 20-year-old U.S. Marine from Kent was reportedly fatally shot when two men tried to rob him last week in a small Georgia town.

Pvt. Anahitdeep Singh Sandhu, a 2017 Kentwood High School graduate, was outside an apartment complex when two men allegedly with the intent to rob him, approached him and pulled a gun on him, Perry Police Capt. Heath Dykes told The Telegraph newspaper in Macon.

Sandhu, on leave with a bunk mate from Perry, was shot multiple times at about 6 p.m. on April 28. He died at a nearby hospital.

Prosecutors have charged Quavion Shaquil Rountree, 25, with murder. Delvin Devon Ross, 24, has been charged with party to the crime of murder, reportedly for providing the gun to Rountree, according to arrest warrants.

“We don’t think there was an argument,” Dykes told The Telegraph. “We don’t think there was a dispute of any kind.”

Rountree and Ross fled empty handed, Dykes said. Sandhu was staying with friends of his bunk mate at the apartment complex, according to police, who continue to investigate the case.

Sandhu was assigned to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224, Marine Aircraft Group 31, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, in Beaufort, S.C.
