A Kent man, who spends his days driving garbage trucks and working in ministry, is still in shock after his $5.5 million win in early November playing Lotto from Washington’s Lottery.
The man, who has asked to remain anonymous, was first alerted to the possibility of a win when his colleague said the winning Lotto ticket was sold at Seaport Food Mart in Seattle.
“Right at that moment I felt a dizziness come over me because I knew I had three tickets from there in my wallet,” the man said, according to a Washington Lotto news release Monday Nov. 25 to announce his Nov. 11 win. “I started dreaming, ‘what if it’s me?’”
The man had always wondered what a Lottery machine does when someone wins big, and now he knows.
“I scanned the barcode and it said ‘Winning ticket. Please contact Lottery.’ I froze, walked quickly to my car, and I must admit I cried.”
Nobody had won since July 27, so the prize kept growing.
The man said the highlight of his life has been working in ministry for over 30 years.
“I love making a difference in people’s lives,” he said.
As for what he’ll do with his winnings, the man said, “I’m still trying to take it all in. Maybe I’ll go on a cruise to rest my mind.”
He bought his winning ticket at Seaport Food Mart, 7801 Detroit Ave. SW, in Seattle.
Lotto is a Washington-based jackpot game from Washington’s Lottery with drawings held each Wednesday and Saturday. Players select six numbers between 1 and 49, or let the computer Quick Pick random numbers. Each ticket is $1 for two plays. The jackpot starts at $1 million and keeps growing until someone matches all six numbers to win.
