An argument between a man and his girlfriend about laundry duties led to the man reportedly choking the woman as she held their baby during a dispute the following morning when he asked her to move out of the home.
Officers arrested the boyfriend for investigation of fourth-degree assault, according to the Kent Police report. The incident occurred at about 2:46 p.m. Jan. 12 at a home in the 26800 block of 127th Avenue Southeast.
The woman told officers as she tried to leave the home her boyfriend grabbed her by the arm as she held their baby. She tried unsuccessfully to push him away and then scratched him on the shoulder. The man reportedly tried to choke her with his arm around her neck, so she bit him on the arm and he let her go.
The fight continued as they each pushed each other and then fell over a sofa in the living room. The baby was unharmed.
The boyfriend told police that his girlfriend accused him of not doing enough chores, especially laundry. They have two children and have lived together for about a year. The boyfriend told officers his girlfriend attacked him for no reason. Officers decided the woman acted in self-defense, so they arrested the boyfriend.
Man scuffles with officer
Police arrested a man for investigation of obstructing an officer after he allegedly refused a command to roll onto his stomach during a tussle with an officer following a dispute at a bus stop at about 9:55 p.m. Jan. 13 near South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South.
An officer in his patrol vehicle heard shouts from a bus stop as he drove along Pacific Highway South, according to the police report. The officer stopped and saw two men pushing and punching each other. One man had blood on his face.
The other man in the fight started to run away but the officer grabbed him by the jacket and forced him to the ground. The man reportedly ignored commands to roll onto his stomach and tried to stand up. The officer then punched the man four times in the rib area to get him to roll over.
The man had apparently attempted to hit a woman at the bus stop with a small handgun, so a male friend of the woman stepped in to stop the man and a fight began. Officers were unable to find a gun. Neither the woman nor the man in the fight wanted to press charges against the other man, who had a warrant for failure to appear in Des Moines on a hit-and-run charge.
Man busts vehicle windows
Officers arrested a man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief after he reportedly broke several vehicle windows of his mother and his aunt when they refused to let him sleep at their homes.
Officers responded to a house in the 10100 block of Southeast 242nd Place at about 12:03 a.m. Jan. 14 after a call about a man breaking vehicle windows, according to the police report.
Police found three vehicles with broken windows and a large rock in the road. The three vehicles were each owned by the man’s mother, who told officers her son was not welcome to stay at her home because of past incidents.
A short time later, police received another call about a man breaking vehicle windows. The man reportedly went to his aunt’s house and broke vehicle windows.
Officers found the man standing near 107th Place Southeast and Southeast 230th Street. He refused a command to remove his hands from his pockets and get to the ground, so an officer drew a gun and ordered him again to the ground. The man complied.
The man told police he just needed a place to stay and jail was better than staying on the streets. When asked about what he did at his mom’s house, he replied that “he did what he did.” The man refused to answer any other questions.
Ex-boyfriend breaks car windows
Police cited at-large a man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief after he reportedly smashed the windows of a car owned by his former girlfriend at about 10:44 p.m. Jan. 13 in the 19300 block of 113th Avenue Southeast.
The woman’s car had a smashed rear window and driver’s side window and there was glass on the ground, according to the police report. The woman told officers she had picked up her kids earlier and the mother of her ex-boyfriend asked her why she had broken her son’s vehicle window. The woman told the mother she didn’t break the window.
The former boyfriend later showed up at the woman’s house and reportedly broke her car windows. Police saw a text message to the woman from the man that indicated he had broken the windows to avenge her breaking his window.
When officers reached the man by phone, he denied he broke any car windows.
