Des Moines Police continue to investigate a stabbing incident on Sunday at a McDonald’s restaurant, 22644 Pacific Highway S., that involved a Kent man and a Federal Way man.
At about 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a McDonald’s employee about a stabbing, according to a Des Moines Police media release.
The restaurant manager, a 20-year-old Federal Way man, approached a group of five people who were loitering near the restrooms. The manager asked the individuals to leave and they refused.
A verbal argument ensued as the group moved towards the lobby area of the restaurant. One of the individuals, a 28-year-old Kent man, made threats to shoot and assault the manager but a firearm was not seen. This same individual was verbally abusive towards the manager, spit on him and threw a milkshake on him.
The Kent man then reportedly punched the manager in the face. The manager removed a pocket knife from his pants pocket and reportedly stabbed the man once in the chest. Everyone involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the officers.
Paramedics transported the Kent man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His injuries appeared to be non-life threatening but he was admitted to the hospital, according to the media release. The manager sustained minor injuries.
Detectives will follow up with additional witnesses and attempt to acquire any surveillance video from the restaurant. The manager is cooperating with police and has not been arrested. Once the investigation is finished, police will send the case to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review and a determination if any charges will be filed against either man.
