Jack Scheel received a lifesaving award from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority for his rescue of a woman during a fire in May at a Kent duplex.
Scheel, of Kent, was driving in the 400 block of East Gowe Street about 10:30 a.m. May 21 when he saw smoke at a house and stopped at the residence. He found the woman inside unable to escape on her own, according to a Puget Sound Fire media release.
Scheel carried the woman through flames to get out of the house. Each suffered minor burns. A fire investigator said Scheel performed his rescue in an area of the house that had “very high heat.”
Puget Sound Fire Battalion Chief Tim Martinsen presented the award to Scheel on Wednesday at Fire Station 78 in Covington.
