Edward Earl Cobb pleaded not guilty Thursday in King County Superior Court to a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Renton teenager July 12 at a Kent fast-food restaurant.
King County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Cobb, 18, of Seattle, on Oct. 24 at a White Center home on a murder warrant for shooting Chezaray Bacchus, 17. King County prosecutors filed murder charges against Cobb July 18.
Bacchus was shot and killed at a fast-food restaurant in the 300 block of East Smith Street after attending the Kent Cornucopia Days festival with friends. Bacchus died at the scene from one shot in the shoulder that entered the chest and a second shot to the face, according to the charging papers.
A preliminary investigation showed the shooting was gang-related, according to Kent Police.
Cobb is slated to return to court Nov. 19, although that hearing could be rescheduled if either prosecutors or the defense ask for more time to prepare the case before setting a trial date.
Cobb is being held without bail at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
