A 26-year-old Kent man fatally shot April 27 at a Kent apartment complex has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Jimmy R. Joe died from a gunshot wound of the chest, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled Joe’s death a homicide.
Officers responded at about 6:34 p.m. to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 23200 block of 61st Avenue South, just northwest of Neely-O’Brien Elementary School, according to Kent Police. A 911 caller reported sounds of a gunshot and a person lying in the parking lot. Joe died at the scene.
As of May 2, detectives have not made an arrest and no further details about the shooting have been released.

This is the sixth homicide in Kent in 2023. Kent had 11 homicides in 2022, 14 in 2021, eight in 2020, four in 2019 and seven in 2018.
