A 36-year-old Kent man faces several federal drug charges after he allegedly targeted clients of a methadone clinic in Seattle for drug sales.
Mohamed Aweys Muse has been charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, according to a March 10 U.S. Department of Justice news release.
Muse is scheduled to be arraigned March 15 in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
According to records filed in the case, Muse came to the attention of law enforcement in late 2022 when Muse was observed making hand-to-hand drug sales in the area of Airport Way South and South Holgate Street in Seattle, according to the news release. Muse appeared to target the clients of a methadone clinic a block away for his drug sales.
In January, Muse started staying overnight at a Lynnwood apartment. On Feb. 2, law enforcement served a court-authorized search warrant on his Lynnwood and Kent apartments. In the Lynnwood apartment, investigators reportedly found fentanyl, cocaine and three firearms. In the Kent apartment, law enforcement allegedly found additional cocaine.
Muse was arrested and remains in federal custody at the SeaTac federal detention center.
Due to the drug quantities involved, Muse faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison if convicted of the drug trafficking charges, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The firearms count is punishable by an additional five years in prison to run consecutive to any prison term imposed on the drug charges.
The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in collaboration with the King County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
