A 35-year-old Kent man died in a two-vehicle crash last Friday night along Interstate 405 in Tukwila near I-5.

The man reportedly was speeding at about 9:06 p.m. southbound on I-405 in a 2000 green Ford Explorer when he struck the rear bumper of a 2013 Toyota Camry, according to a State Patrol press release. The Explorer then rotated and rolled before striking the Jersey barrier and coming to a rest in the HOV lane.

Joseph Gibson Jr. died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. Gibson, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

Two passengers, who also did not wear seat belts, were in the Explorer. Paramedics transported a 35-year-old Buckley woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. A 35-year-old Seattle man had no injuries.

A 38-year-old Seattle man was alone in the Camry and didn’t get injured. He wore a seat belt.

The State Patrol listed speeding as the cause of the crash and had not yet determined if alcohol or drugs were involved.
