A 35-year-old Kent man was killed when his motorcycle, traveling at more than 60 mph, rear-ended a car stopped in traffic on a ramp from eastbound Highway 518 to southbound Interstate 5 at about 6 p.m. Wednesday in Tukwila.
The Kent man, whose identity had not yet been released Thursday by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, died at the scene of the accident, said Trooper Dan McDonald of the Washington State Patrol.
With traffic backed up on the I-5 ramp waiting for a signal to allow vehicles to enter the freeway, the motorcyclist entered the HOV lane and used the shoulder to pass cars before hitting a car stopped in traffic.
The motorcycle ricochet off the car and into a concrete barrier. Witnesses estimated the speed of the motorcycle at more than 60 mph, McDonald said.
There were no injuries to the people in the stopped car.
