Kent man, 62, arrested for vehicular assault in I-5 crash

Early Sunday morning in Seattle

The Washington State Patrol arrested a 62-year-old Kent man for investigation of vehicular assault/DUI after a seven-car crash that injured five people early Sunday morning along Interstate 5 in Seattle.

The Kent man remained in satisfactory condition Monday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to a hospital spokeswoman. A 19-year-old Seattle woman, the driver of a second vehicle, was treated and discharged from the hospital.

Paramedics also transported three Kent teens, who were passengers in the Kent’s man vehicle, to Harborview with injuries. All three reportedly were not admitted to the hospital. A 43-year-old Kent woman, the driver of a third vehicle, was reportedly treated and released.

The incident occurred at about 5:39 a.m. on southbound I-5 near the Boeing Access Road, according to the State Patrol report.

Vehicles one and two were traveling in lane one of five. Vehicle three was disabled on the right shoulder. Vehicle two failed to stop for traffic, struck vehicle three from the side and came to rest in lane one. Vehicle one, driven by the Kent man, reportedly struck vehicle two, crossed all lanes and came to rest in lane five.

Four other vehicles attempted to miss vehicle one and also crashed. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The State Patrol closed the southbound lanes for one hour and 45 minutes.
