A 47-year-old Kent man is under investigation for vehicular assault and DUI after he reportedly drove the wrong way on State Route 509 in Burien, collided with two vehicles and injured six people, including himself.
The man was driving alone in a 2012 Lincoln MKS sedan southbound in the northbound lanes of SR 509 at about 10:55 p.m. Friday, July 19 near South 136th Street, according to the Washington State Patrol. The Lincoln swerved and side swiped a 1999 Mercedes-Benz 280 sedan before striking a 2004 Nissan Sentra sedan head on.
The Kent man, three people in the second vehicle and two people in the third vehicle were each transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A 10-year-old boy was one of the injured passengers.
Drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the State Patrol. All three vehicles were totaled. The freeway was blocked for about 5 hours and 10 minutes.
