A 25-year-old Kent man and a 30-year-old Tacoma woman remained in critical condition after a head-on collision early Thursday morning, March 11 along Highway 18 near Kent and Auburn.
Both are critical in ICU, according to a spokesperson late Thursday morning, March 11 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The Tacoma woman was driving a 1999 Lexus ES eastbound in the westbound lanes just west of Southeast 304th Street, according to the State Patrol. The Kent man was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry westbound in the westbound lanes when the cars collided. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
The Lexus rotated and came to rest on top of a metal guardrail on the left shoulder. The Camry rotated and came to rest on the right shoulder, facing the wrong way. Both cars were totaled.
State Patrol closed the highway for more than four hours. The crash occurred at about 2:33 a.m.
The cause remains under investigation and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved, according to the State Patrol. Charges are pending against the Tacoma woman.
