Someone called in a bogus bomb threat Thursday to the Kent Kmart similar to other threats across the nation over the last couple of months.
The incident occurred at about 3:55 p.m. at the store, 24800 West Valley Highway, said Kent Police detective Melanie Frazier. The building was evacuated during the investigation.
“The situation is very similar to ones nationwide involving someone calling in a bomb threat then telling the caller to load up a green dot card,” Frazier said. “There is no bomb, and no money was loaded onto any cards in our case.”
An online search for Kmart bomb threats revealed numerous incidents across the nation similar to what happened in Kent. So far, no threats have proven true.
Green dot cards are money cards that can be purchased at retail stores with cash, checks or deposits from bank accounts and then be used similar to a debit card.
