A community tradition in celebration of National Youth Arts Month, youth showed their creativity at the 29th annual Kent Kids’ Arts Day at the Kent Commons on Saturday.
According to Mark Hendrickson, Kent’s Cultural Programs coordinator, the day-long festival featured 14 hands-on art projects led by professional artists and geared for kids ages 4 to 12.
“For 29 years, Kids’ Arts Day has showcased the amazing talents of Kent’s young people while fostering new creative talents with hands-on art projects,” said Hendrickson.
Featured hands-on projects included Hands in Wax, Sew a Bean Bag, Sumi Painting, Recycled Robots, Clay Creatures and Print Making. Local school groups and community dance studios took the stage with multicultural music and dance. Other activities included face painting and larger-than-life magnetic poetry on the Wall of Words.
Kids’ Day is presented by the Kent Arts Commission and the Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department with partial funding from 4Culture, Washington State Arts Commission, Kent Lions Club, Fred Meyer and Kent Community Foundation.
