For the Reporter

A Monday night house fire in the 14500 block of Southeast 275th Place has displaced two adults, the Kent Fire Department reported.

Kent firefighters were dispatched to the two-story house at approximately 10:30 p.m. after the occupants called 911 to report a stove top fire that was spreading to the walls and cabinets of the kitchen.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the second story of the house and one of the two occupants still inside. After entering the house, the firefighters found one person downstairs and helped that person evacuate safely. The second person had escaped safely.

Flames from the stove went through the ventilation system and spread to the attic, but did not get to other parts of the house as firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. Smoke and heat melted blinds and blackened walls on the second floor, but the fire was limited to the kitchen area.

The fire investigator determined that the fire was caused by unattended food on the stove, and is considered accidental.

There were no working smoke alarms in the upstairs of the home.

In addition to the Kent Fire Department RFA, firefighters from King County FD 44, and King County Medic One responded to the call.
