For the Reporter

One person was sent to a local hospital due to smoke inhalation following an early Sunday morning house fire in the 24900 block of Military Road South, Kent Fire officials said.

The fire, which was first reported at 12:30 a.m., heavily damaged the single-story house, where two people lived. A third person, who has visiting, was also in the house at the time of the fire.

All three people got out on their own, but one later began coughing and was evaluated by King County Paramedics before being sent to the hospital. All three were already awake when they discovered the fire.

When firefighters from the Kent Fire Department RFA and South King Fire and Rescue arrived on scene, the fire was already coming through the roof of the house as well as from several windows. They attacked the fire aggressively and kept it from spreading to the next door home.

The fire in Kent was caused by an unattended candle in a front bedroom, investigators said.

It is unknown if there were working smoke alarms in the home.
