For the Reporter

Kent Fire officials are investigating an early Monday morning house fire in the 24000 block of 138 Court Southeast.

Firefighters from the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority were dispatched to the house fire at 1:30 a.m. after a security patrol noticed smoke coming from the two-story home. When the first unit arrived, they found smoke coming from the house and flames on the first floor.

It took approximately 20 minutes to fully extinguish the fire and to ensure that it had not spread into the attic space.

Two searches of the house showed the house was unoccupied. There were no reported injuries.

No one was living in the house, which is for sale. According to the owner, transients have been a problem in the area, and coincidentally a man was arrested just one block away by Kent Police during a possible home burglary at the same time as the fire.

A fire investigator will determine the cause of the fire.
