Kent firefighters extinguished an attic fire at a house Thursday afternoon in the 25400 block of 173rd Avenue Southeast in Covington, according to Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority officials.
The fire could have gotten much worse if a neighbor had not noticed the smoke coming from the eaves and called 911 at about 1:45 p.m., fire officials said.
No one was home in the single-story house, just northeast of Kentwood High School. Firefighters from the Kent Fire Department RFA and the Maple Valley Fire Department cut holes in both the ceiling and roof of the house to access the seat of the fire and had it extinguished in less than 10 minutes.
There were no reported injuries. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
