The Kent Fire Department assisted the Seatac Fire Department Saturday during a four-alarm fire at the Old Angle Lake School at 19215 28th Ave. S. in SeaTac. Ladder 74 and Engine 73 provide direct support to the overall operation. Ladder 74 provided aerial support to pour thousands of gallons of water from above while Engine 73 provided water to the ladder.
Seatac Fire Department received several 911 calls at 5:18 p.m. about heavy smoke pouring from a boarded-up building behind the Comfort Inn.
The fire engine arrived two minutes later at the old Angle Lake School to find dark smoke from all eves of an abandoned building. A second alarm was requested bring units from Port of Seattle Fire, Tukwila, Burien, South King Fire and Rescue, North Highline, Kent and King County Medic One.
From the outside fire could be seen rapidly spreading to the attic area of the two-story section of the school. Along with heavy fire on the backside of the building. Firefighters entered the building to make a quick attack of the fire along with cutting holes in the roof to release heat. However the fire overpowered the firefighters and were forced to take a defensive position. This included using two ladder companies from Tukwila and Kent to pour thousands of gallons of water from above.
A third alarm was called at 5:43 p.m. to support the ongoing operations with a four alarm called at 6:43 p.m.
A total of 90 fire personnel to include units from Seatac, Port of Seattle Fire, Tukwila, Burien, North Highline, Kent, South King Fire and Rescue, Renton, Skyway and King County Medic One.
Port of Seattle Police will be working with King County Sheriffs Arson and Fire Investigation Unit to determine the cause of the fire.
