The Kent Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, between Orillia Road and the Southcenter Parkway exit, at approximately 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
The fire grew quickly, spreading north and south, and up the bank into the trees. Approximately 2½ to 3 acres burned before the fire was fully extinguished.
No structures were threatened.
Eventually, units from Tukwila, SeaTac, Federal Way, Port of Seattle and Boeing Fire Department assisted in the firefight, with approximately 40 firefighters and more than 13 fire apparatus in all.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
