The Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority is looking to hire as many as 10 to 12 firefighters this fall.
With eight vacant positions and projected retirements later this year, the department needs the new hires, said spokesman Kyle Ohashi.
“Typically, we retire four to six people a year, but we are expecting a higher number of retirees due to a senior work force here,” Ohasi said in an email.
Kent has 217 firefighters and serves the cities of Kent, Covington and SeaTac as well as Fire District 37.
Applicants must complete the initial testing through Public Safety Testing by May 31 to be eligible. For more information, go to publicsafetytesting.com/.
