Kent Police are still trying to figure out what led to the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Kent man last week inside a East Hill apartment complex and a second man injured by a gunshot wound to his leg.
“This was not drug or gang related and the two did not appear to know each other,” Kent Police Assistant Chief Jarod Kasner said in a Wednesday email.
A preliminary investigation indicated the two men may have known each other, but now it looks like that wasn’t the case.
Officers were dispatched to the Row Apartments, 25614 98th Place S., around 2:55 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 and discovered a man inside a unit with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Kent Police. Despite immediate CPR efforts by first responders, the man died at the scene.
At the same time, officers conducted a K9 track for a suspect and located a 27-year-old Seattle man with a gunshot wound to his leg at nearby French Field next to Kent-Meridian High School. Fire personnel and medics were dispatched to the location, and the man was later transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police found two guns, but no arrest related to the shooting has been made as the investigation continues, Kasner said.
As of Wednesday morning, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office had not yet released the Kent man’s name.
