With the Fourth of July approaching, Kent city officials want to remind residents that all personal fireworks are illegal in the city.
The city’s ban (City Code 13.05) prohibits the sale, possession and use of all consumer fireworks as part of an effort to eliminate fires, injuries and fire-related complaints.
The City Council approved a fireworks ban in 2016 after Kent voters (62%) approved a ban in an advisory vote to the council in November 2015. The council received numerous complaints over the years about fireworks in neighborhoods and submitted an advisory measure to residents.
Violators are subject to a fine and the confiscation of their fireworks.
Call the Kent Police nonemergency line at 253-852-2121 to report fireworks. Police ask that residents do not call 911 unless there is an immediate safety concern or injury.
