Kent City Council members received their committee assignments at their first meeting of 2018.
Prior to the committee appointments, the council unanimously approved Bill Boyce to be council president for another two-year term. Boyce is the first council member in at least a dozen years or more to serve more than two years as president. The president works closely with the mayor to set meeting agendas and speaks for the council as a whole. The president also represents the city as Mayor Pro Tem in the mayor’s absence.
The committees deal with many issues before the measures go to the full seven-member council.
Boyce announced the committee assignments at the Jan. 2 meeting:
• Economic and Community Development
Chair: Boyce. Members: Tina Budell, Satwinder Kaur.
• Operations
Chair: Les Thomas. Members: Boyce, Dennis Higgins.
• Parks and Human Services
Chair: Brenda Fincher. Members: Kaur, Budell.
• Public Safety
Chair: Toni Troutner. Members: Thomas, Boyce.
• Public Works
Chair: Higgins. Members: Troutner, Fincher.
• Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority
Members: Boyce, Thomas, Troutner.
