Four weeks into the second annual Kent Turkey Challenge, more than $11,500 and 830 cans of food has been raised to help create a memorable Thanksgiving for local Kent families.
Torklift Central challenged Kent businesses to compete against each other to collect the most food and monetary donations for the Kent Food Bank, according to a Torklift Central media relase.
Businesses have the option to sell paper turkeys for $10. Customers can write their name on the paper turkey and the businesses can hang them on the wall to represent their progress.
More than 100 boxes were delivered to businesses and organizations in Kent. Mayor Suzette Cooke proclaimed the Kent Turkey Challenge for Oct. 16-Nov. 15.
Torklift Central delivered boxes on Oct. 8 and will pick them up Nov. 15-16.
“The outcome for the challenge so far has been amazing to watch,” said Torklift Central RV general manager Rick Shafer. “Businesses are going above and beyond to help raise money and collect food for local families in Kent.”
One of the companies competing received an $8,000 check last week, putting its total raised to $8,480. Torklift Central is in second place with a total of $1,080 raised so far. Shannon and Associates and Curran Law Firm are not far behind.
With about one week left of the challenge, participating businesses are asking the community for their support.
“Any donation will help,” said Torklift Central general manager Matt Lynch. “I am excited to see how much the businesses in Kent can raise this year for the challenge.”
