Kent Black Action Commission (KBAC) joins several organizations from throughout the state for “A Day of Action” and rally at the State Capitol in Olympia on Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is an opportunity for KBAC leaders and groups to express concerns in the areas of political policy, economic justice, criminal justice and education.
KBAC will provide bus transportation to and from the event. Bus riders will assemble at Kent-Meridian High School, 10020 SE 256th St., at 7:30 a.m. and depart at 8 a.m. On the return, the bus will depart Olympia at 3 p.m., arriving back at Kent-Meridian at approximately 4 p.m.
There are approximately 40 seats available on the bus on a first-come, first-serve basis. Seats must be reserved in advance. Deadline to reserve seats is Jan. 16. Reserve a seat by calling KBAC’s Gwen Allen-Carston at 253-486-9029 or Richard Johnson at 253-631-7944.
Students, especially high school seniors, are encouraged to join the rally. However, if students are unaccompanied by a parent, they will need a “parent permission slip” to board the bus.
KBAC will provide a light fare for breakfast on the trip down and a light lunch in Olympia. If you have specific dietary needs or desires, please feel free to bring your own lunch and or snacks.
Please dress in a manner that is appropriate for the weather conditions.
