Kent-based Puget Sound Fire hits high call volume on July 4

Firefighters respond to 207 emergencies, nearly 100 more than normal in 5 cities agency serves

Kent-based Puget Sound Fire had nearly 100 more calls on July 4 than a normal call volume day.

Firefighters responded to 207 emergencies in a 24-hour period, according to a Puget Sound Fire statement. On an average day, the agency responds to about 117 calls.

The emergencies included residential fires, brush fires, emergency medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, a horse-riding accident and a shooting (in Kent) with two patients that sustained critical injuries. The incident type breakdown was 115 fire dispatches, 86 emergency medical calls and six service calls.

Puget Sound Fire serves the residents of Covington, Kent, Maple Valley, SeaTac, Tukwila and the unincorporated areas of King County Fire District No. 37 and King County Fire District No. 43. The agency provides emergency and nonemergency services to over 120 square miles of property, protecting a population of more than 260,000.
