As much as the political shakeup on the federal level seems under way on election night, so too are shakeups going down on the local level.
As of Tuesday night, two incumbents appeared to be losing to their challengers in the 47th district.
Sen. Claudia Kauffman, a democrat running for her second term, was trailing newcomer Joe Fain, garnering 44.06 percent of the vote to his 55.79 percent.
In the State Representative Position 1 race, Republican challenger Mark Hargrove was holding a decisive lead over incumbent Geoff Simpson – accruing 57.55 percent of the vote to Simpson’s 42.27 percent.
In the other races local to the Kent area, the incumbents were holding steadty leads: Sen. Karen Keiser in the 33rd District garnering 58.7 percent to Jack Michalek’s 41.6 percent.
Pat Sullivan, the Democratic incumbent in the State Representative Position 2 race, was handly leading his opponent Rodrigo M. Yanez, 55.17 percent to 44.73 percent.
