A Kent-based shoe company donated more than 400 pairs of boots to the Kent Area Council PTA Clothing Bank during the clothing bank’s opening night of the school year on Sept. 13.
Washington Shoe Company’s foundation, Wear a Big Smile, also visited KentHOPE, a day center for homeless women and children, on Aug. 24, giving away 30 pairs of boots.
The events are a part of the foundation’s goal to donate $125,000 in product to community organizations this year to celebrate Washington Shoe Company’s 125th anniversary. Rob Moehring, former CEO of Washington Shoe, created the foundation earlier this year.
Wear a Big Smile also plans to donate boots to 80 kindergarteners at Kent’s Millennium Elementary School on Oct. 6.
Washington Shoe distributed raincoats and rain boots at the clothing bank last spring.
The clothing bank, which is in Kent Phoenix Academy on the East Hill, is opened two Tuesdays a month during the school year.
