For the Reporter
Two people were displaced Tuesday morning following a fire at their apartment in the 1000 block of Central Avenue North.
Two searches of the apartment showed that no one was home during the fire. No other units in the building were affected by the fire.
The first reports to 911 at 7 a.m. were of black smoke coming from the window of a second-story apartment. When firefighters arrived and entered the unit they found black smoke extending down to the floor and high heat. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire that has started in the bedroom.
Investigators determined that the fire started due to bedding materials left too close to an electric wall heater.
The residents are being assisted by Red Cross.
