Joe Root will replace Kyle Ohashi as the public information officer for the Kent-based Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority.
Capt. Root has been with the department for more than 28 years and has served as a firefighter, engineer, engine company officer, hazardous materials response team captain and was most recently serving as a code enforcement officer, according to a news release from Puget Sound Fire.
His wide range of experience will be invaluable while representing the department and he will continue to provide the same high level of public information that Puget Sound Fire is known for.
Root is settling into his new position and will start covering incidents on Monday, June 17. Ohashi, who has served as the PIO for the last 15 years, is retiring at the end of June after 30 years with the department.
Puget Sound Fire serves the cities of Kent, Covington, Maple Valley and SeaTac.
