Kent Fire investigators are sifting through evidence to determine what started an apartment fire in the 23200 block of 88 Avenue South.
Kent firefighters were dispatched at 4:40 p.m. Sunday and found smoke and flames coming from a third-story corner apartment. The lone occupant had already been removed. He was treated by King County medics and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All other residents escaped safely.
Firefighters were able to limit the fire damage to the unit, though water and smoke slightly damaged two other apartments in the 12-unit building.
Managers of the apartment complex were working to find housing for the displaced residents.
Three cats were in the apartment at the time of the fire. One cat is confirmed deceased and two are missing.
