A Kent Fire Investigator has determined that a house fire in the 9800 block of South 247 Court was caused by airborne fireworks landing on the shake-style roof.
The fire was first reported at 5:24 p.m. today, July 4, by several people, including a Kent police officer who was responding to a different call.
No one was injured in the fire and the damage was limited by firefighters to one portion of the two story house. Three adults, who were all home at the time of the fire, have been displaced. They are being cared for by other family members.
It is unclear if the fireworks that started this particular fire were the legal-to-be discharged type or not. Despite an investigation that checked with nearby homes, no one has been found that may have set off the fireworks.
Certain types of fireworks can be discharged in the city of Kent today, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.
