Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has scheduled a news conference for Sunday morning as COVID-19 case numbers have soared throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Inslee’s office said he would discuss action to combat the crisis.
Quoting industry sources briefed by his staff, The Seattle Times on Saturday reported that the governor will announce a ban on indoor gatherings and indoor service at restaurants and bars, as well as occupancy limits for retailers, including grocery stores, among other measures.
For the second day in a row Saturday, Washington health officials reported a record number of daily coronavirus cases, with 2,233 new infections as of 11:59 p.m. Friday. That brought the state’s totals to 127,731 cases and 2,519 deaths since the outbreak began in January. In Snohomish County, there have been 11,158 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 247 deaths.
On Friday, the governors of California, Oregon and Washington issued travel advisories urging people entering or returning to their states to self-quarantine to slow the spread of the coronavirus as infections spike across the U.S.
