Drivers will face delays once again this weekend on northbound Interstate 5 between State Route 516 in Kent and the Southcenter area.

After taking last weekend off, paving crews return to work and will shut down two lanes starting at 8 p.m. Friday, July 7, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 10.

This will be the fourth of six full-weekend lane closures. Also, the ramps to both directions of SR 516, as well as the ramps to and from Military Road/South 200th Street and South 188th Street/Orillia Road will also be closed.

Crews have already made great progress on the project. So far, they’ve paved nearly 43,000 tons of asphalt and replaced 88 broken concrete panels.

Two more weekend closures are planned for July 14-17 and Aug. 11-14, weather permitting.

During three weekends in June, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation made substantial progress on northbound I-5 between State Route 516 in Kent and South 170th Street in Tukwila:

• Breaking concrete in all lanes to prepare for repaving along the four-mile section.

• Paving nearly 3,000 dump truck loads of asphalt – approximately 43,000 tons of pavement.

• Replacing 88 broken concrete panels near SR 516.
