Apparent horseplay between several friends led to a 20-year-old Kent man being airlifted with a head injury to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after he fell off the back of a moving vehicle at about 4:20 p.m. May 18 in the 27000 block of 128th Place Southeast on Kent’s East Hill.
According to the Kent Police Department, the man had jumped onto the rear bumper and trunk area of a friend’s vehicle as it slowly passed down the street. The man then fell from the car and struck his head on the roadway.
The driver was unaware what his friend had done until he and a passenger felt the car dip and then saw their friend laying in the street, according to an email from Kent Police spokesman Pat Lowery.
Kent firefighters and King County paramedics treated the man before bringing him to the Kent Fire Station along 116th Avenue Southeast for transportation via Airlift Northwest to the hospital.
Kent Police have investigated the incident and determined that no charges will be filed and are calling it a tragic accident.
